Job Description
STS BROADBAND
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), a division of the Quality and IT Department, has these
vacancies available. Applications are invited from individuals meeting the qualifi cations and experience
requirements, as set out below.
Specialist Server Engineer
The successful candidate will mainly be tasked with server management, installation, building, rebuilding,
confi guration and security.
Critical performance areas: ● Build and rebuild server infrastructure, including proper installation and
server upgrades ● Deploy and manage data using the encryption fi le system ● Confi gure the proxy server
and provide network access to fi le resources ● Maintain confi gurations and hardware ● Implement Linux-/
Windows-based servers ● Manage policies and procedures as well as directory, printing and terminal
services ● Monitor and optimise the performance of servers ● Create and manage accounts ● Implement
and manage security in the server environment ● Manage disks and confi gurations and implement
disaster recovery ● Supervise the server team.
In order to apply, candidates must have a BSc (Comp Science) or National Diploma in IT or equivalent
NQF Level 6 qualifi cation and 5-7 years’ experience as a Server Engineer. Qualifi cation as a Microsoft
Certifi ed Engineer or Microsoft Certifi ed Professional, as well as a Linux Certifi ed Engineer or Redhat
Certifi ed Engineer, is also required. Knowledge of both Linux- and Windows-based servers will be an
added advantage. Problem-solving, planning and organisation and good team skills are also needed.
