Job Description
Assmang Ltd has the vacancies at their Black Rock Mining operation, situated 80km northwest of Kuruman in the Northern Cape:
Strata Control Observers
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Identifying, recording and reporting ground-related mining hazards in working places
- Assessing and communicating the risks associated with hazards
- Monitoring and testing ground support measures
- Conducting on-the-job coaching of production personnel on strata control
- Auditing workplaces and practices for compliance to relevant procedures and standards
- Producing audit reports to the set standards
- Participating in ground-related incident or accident investigations, under direction of the Strata Control Officer
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Strata Control Officer or Rock Engineer.
Minimum qualifications:
- A Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
- Possession of or working towards COM Strata Control qualifications will be advantageous
- Possession of a Blasting Certificate will be advantageous.
Experience and requirements:
- Willingness to undertake self-study and obtain COM Strata Control qualifications
- 2-3 years’ relevant underground mining experience, preferably in geology or strata control
- A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence
- Proficiency in computers
- A team orientation, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
The successful candidates will be appointed on the condition of being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act, 29/1996. Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged groups to support the company’s employment equity plan.
Appointment: Remuneration will be based on a competitive, all-inclusive, flexible package.
