Job Description

Assmang Ltd has the vacancies at their Black Rock Mining operation, situated 80km northwest of Kuruman in the Northern Cape:

Senior Storekeeper

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring the availability of stock items for the purpose of production need
  • Managing and maintaining assets pertaining to the stores section
  • Maintaining optimum stock holding, thereby ensuring cost-effectiveness
  • Developing and maintaining a procurement system to ensure effective store operation
  • Effectively building and maintaining internal and external customer relationships
  • Ensuring correct storage and handling requirements for spares and equipment
  • Managing the performance of the work team to achieve the Store Section’s business objectives, including effective communication of management information and team needs
  • Developing a competent work team by ensuring appropriate recruitment and the development, implementation and monitoring of the necessary training and development initiatives
  • Ensuring adherence to SHERQ and legal standards and procedures within the relevant section and assisting Management in the improvement thereof
  • Ensuring that access control processes and procedures are in place in order to prevent any financial loss
  • Performing any ad hoc or other reasonable duties as and when requested from time to time.


Minimum qualification: Grade 12 plus a 2-year Inventory Management diploma.

Experience and requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ inventory management experience in a mining environment
  • A minimum of 1 year’s supervisory and management experience
  • A valid Code 08 driver’s licence.


Skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • High computer literacy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Maximo, JD Edwards, MS Excel and MS Word
  • Report writing skills
  • Supervisory, leadership, communication, planning and organising skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • A high sense of responsibility
  • The ability to communicate in both English and Afrikaans (read, write and speak)
  • The ability to work accurately and under pressure.


The successful candidates will be appointed on the condition of being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act, 29/1996. Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged groups to support the company’s employment equity plan.
