The CCLA is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Johannesburg, working broadly within the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Centre is looking to appoint a Senior Researcher on a three-year contract basis. The successful candidate will be able to pursue his/her own research, where it connects with the aims of the CCLA . The post may also include working on a project related to public history and community development in Sophiatown, Johannesburg. The ability to work in a team is essential. The University of Johannesburg
offers very generous possibilities for research funding.

Requirements: The successful candidate should be able to: * Assist in defining the research agenda of the Centre * Assist with postgraduate supervision * Assist in the drafting and conceptualisation of research
projects and funding proposals. The general requirements for the post include a doctoral degree in the Humanities or an associated field, but with knowledge of humanities research methodologies, and preferably
in a field related to Anthropology/History. A publication record relative to experience, prior experience in conducting research in a university environment and the ability to conduct research independently are also
essential. Experience in oral history theory and practice would be an advantage. The University of Johannesburg requires regular publication from all its researchers.
Fluency in an African language and international academic links, as well as a driver’s licence, would be of additional benefits.
