Barrick is the largest gold mining company in Tanzania with four operating gold mines - Bulyanhulu, North Mara and Tulawaka and Buzwagi.
Barrick Africa also comprises joint venture partnerships, such as the Kabanga Nickel Project in Tanzania.
Regional Environmental Manager (Mining)
Based in Bedfordview, Johannesburg and reporting to the Regional COO, the incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing and directing environmental policies and programmes for all of Barrick Africa established, developing and closure properties. The Environmental Manager will, specifically, implement the Barrick Environmental System. The role is essentially strategic and through effective leadership, the successful candidate will be required to implement the strategic initiatives and ensure the delivery of agreed outcomes via well-executed tactical plans. He/she will lead all compliance, public and governmental interface on environmental issues for the region. In addition, there will be extensive interface with site operations management, executive management, outside consultants and regulatory agencies.
Candidates must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management (an advanced degree is preferred). Experience at a senior management level with general oversight of environmental programmes is essential. Successful environmental work with State and federal/national regulatory agencies is required in an international setting, whilst involvement with developing, installing and maintaining environmental management systems is important.
